Man sues Apple for $10 billion for ‘stealing’ his designs for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch

Florida man sues Apple for $10 billion for ‘stealing’ his iPhone designs from 1992

Apple’s lawsuit woes dont seem to ending anytime soon. A Florida man, Thomas S Ross has filed a lawsuit against Apple accusing the tech giant for stealing and using his own hand-drawn designs for an ‘Electronic Reading Device’ (ERD) that he conceived in 1992 for the design of its iPhone, iPad and iPod. Now, Ross man is suing Apple for over $10 billion (£7.5 billion). He also believes that he is owed “a reasonable royalty” of 1.5pc of all of Apple’s future sales.

Ross had filed a patent for an ERD, a rectangular, hand-held gadget with a screen, in 1992. In his lawsuit, he claims that he was “the first to file a device so designed and aggregated as to have created a novel combination of media and communication tools… whose identity was, since then, hijacked and exploited by Apple’s iPhones, iPods, iPads and others.”

Included in the lawsuit filing are drawings of Ross’s original patent conceived between May and September 1992. Ross claims Apple’s own reproductions “are substantially the same as his technical drawings of the ERD, and that Apple’s three-dimensional derivative devices (iPhone, iPod, iPad), embody the non-functional aesthetic look and feel”.

Among his submissions are a design for a further device – or likely a combination of two devices, known as the ‘Cypher-Text’, a ‘reading device’; and the ‘Cypher-Note’, a ‘writing device’ (shown below).

Ross’s patent was never actually approved, since he failed to pay the appropriate fees to the US Patent and Trademark Office, and the application was declared abandoned in 1995. However, he claims Apple resorted to “dumpster diving” when designing the iPhone and subsequent devices.

“Instead of creating its own ideas, Apple chose to adopt a culture of dumpster diving as an R&D strategy,” Ross’s lawsuit says.

It quotes Steve Jobs, who once said that “we have always been shameless about stealing great ideas”, and claims that Apple has caused Ross “great and irreparable injury that cannot fully be compensated or measured in money”. However, he may struggle to convince a jury that Apple pinched his concept.

Ross is demanding a jury hear a trial in the Florida Southern District Court. Ross v. Apple, Inc. was filed with the Florida Southern District Court on June 27. The case number is 0:2016cv61471.

How To Hack WhatsApp Using SS7 Flaw

Researchers are easily able to hack WhatsApp and Telegram using the known telecom flaw

We continuously receive queries from readers about how to hack WhatsApp. The world’s most popular cross platform messaging App is seen to be ultimate hack by many because it has recently enabled 256-bit encryption.

For ordinary souls this encryption would take days and months to decode a sentence or a complete message. Ditto with another secure messaging service called Telegram. Though Telegram is not as popular as WhatsApp, it has its ardent group of followers who use it for its encryption as well as snooping free service.

Though both of these Apps are end-to-end encrypted both of them suffer from hardware side vulnerability which can be exploited to hack and hijack both WhatsApp and Telegram.

The vulnerability lies in Signalling System 7, or SS7, the technology used by telecom operators, on which the highly secure messaging system and telephone calls rely. SS7 is a set of telephony signalling protocols developed in 1975, which is used to set up and tear down most of the world’s public switched telephone network (PSTN) telephone calls. It also performs number translation, local number portability, prepaid billing, Short Message Service (SMS), and other mass market services.

SS7 is vulnerable to hacking and this has been known since 2008. In 2014, the media reported a protocol vulnerability of SS7 by which both government agencies and non-state actors can track the movements of cell phone users from virtually anywhere in the world with a success rate of approximately 70%. In addition, eavesdropping is possible by using the protocol to forward calls and also facilitate decryption by requesting that each caller’s carrier release a temporary encryption key to unlock the communication after it has been recorded. Researchers created a tool (SnoopSnitch) which can warn when certain SS7 attacks occur against a phone and detect IMSI-catchers.

You can view how researchers managed to hack WhatsApp and Telegram using the SS7 flaw below:

WhatsApp Hack

Telegram Hack

Both the hacks exploit the SS7 vulnerability by tricking the telecom network into believing the attacker’s phone has the same number as the victim’s phone. Once the network has been fooled, anybody, even a newbie can spy on the legitimate WhatsApp and Telegram user by creating a new WhatsApp or Telegram account using the secret code.

Once complete, the attacker now controls the account, including the ability to send and receive messages. Even more horrific is the fact that the hacker can also send messages on behalf of the victim, and read confidential messages intended for the victim without ever having to try to break strong encryption protocols.

See how easily you can hack WhatsApp and Telegram by fooling the network into believing your are the victim.

How to Bypass Android Lollipop 5.0 Lock Screen

he vulnerability is the thing – that each and every system currently have, whether we found that now or later on but sooner or later we will. Why we need to bypass our Android password protected lock screen? there is only two reason either you have forgotten your password (After the maximum limit of incorrect password you will be prompt to click on Forget Password and you will be required to provide your Gmail password) or else you are trying to hack into your Android Lollipop smartphone!

This is a security bug on your Android smartphone, but Google updated this via OTA still some of the devices can be used to perform this so-called hack, follow the below steps to bypass password protected lock screen.

So start following the below steps:

Step1: Your Android is already locked so you need to click on Emergency button (if you can’t find that then you need to use maximum limit of the incorrect password which will lead you to Emergency call.)
click on Emergency button

Step2: Now on the Emergency dialer you need to click random numbers continuously until it crossed its limit.

Step3: After that you need to copy that whole number by long pressing and select “Select All” and then select “Copy“.
Select All and copy it

Step4: After that you need to open your camera, Camera can be accessible if you have not locked your camera too, After opening camera – you need to slide down the notification bar and it will ask you to provide your lock screen password then paste the copied numbers.

Step5:
Soon after you provide the copied number you will see your camera is crashed or if not then you need to paste the password again which may be 3 – 5 times along with pressing the volume up-down key to make your system lag.
Unfortunately, Camera has stopped

Step6: And if you followed the process correctly then your camera will get crash suddenly and from there your device is unlocked with a pop-up window showing “Unfortunately, Camera has stopped“.

Note: This security vulnerability still works on some of the outdated devices, if your Android device is not being updated with the recent update patch then it will work on that device.

Snowden- FBI doesnt require Apple’s help to unlock an iPhone, they already know everything

FBI’s claim that it requires Apple’s help to unlock iPhone is ‘bullshit,’ Snowden says

The Apple vs.FBI fight over unlocking of San Bernardino shooter’s iPhone has reached epic proportions with both sides claiming their version to be true. However not all believe that FBI doesnt have the knowhow to crack the iPhone without Apple’s help. Former NSA contractor and serial whistleblower, Edward Snowden is one of them who believes FBI has all the possible resources to hack an iPhone without Apple’s help.

Speaking at Common Cause’s ‘Blueprint for Democracy’ conference today, Edward Snowden spoke about surveillance, personal liberties and of course, the San Bernadino shooter’s iPhone. “The FBI says Apple has the ‘exclusive technical means’ to unlock the phone,” Snowden said. “Respectfully, that’s bullshit.”
The global technological consensus is against the FBI. Why? Here's one example:https://t.co/t2JHOLK8iU #FBIvsApple https://t.co/mH1ZXOOQ1E
— Edward Snowden (@Snowden) March 8, 2016
In the link provided by Snowden, Daniel Kahn Gillmor of the American Civil Liberties Union argues that FBI is more than capable of unlocking the San Bernardino shooter’s iPhone. And Gilmore isnt the only one, iOS security researcher Jonathan Zdziarski had written last week detailing the FBI’s missteps in the San Bernadino case. Most notably, the changing of the iCloud password that prevented the FBI from retrieving an unencrypted iCloud backup directly from Apple’s servers.

While Gillmor and Zdziarski may have their reasons to believe FBI is lying on the issue, many other researchers have proposed ways and means for FBI to hack into the shooter’s iPhone. But all of the methods suggested by them are either expensive and time-consuming or may brick the shooter’s iPhone leading to physically destroying the memory, and evidence.

ICloud Forgot Password & ICloud Password Recovery

What to do if you've forgotten your iCloud password.
Help. I've forgotten the password for my iCloud account. How do I reset or recover my Apple ID password?

Forgotten passwords are a common problem. People are advised to frequently change their passwords, and pick a different (complex) password for each service: that makes passwords hard to crack, but hard to remember, too. So we aren't surprised when people tell us they've forgotten their iCloud password.

The iCloud password is used to log into iCloud on your Mac OS X and Apple devices, and also to log into iCloud.com. In most instances it will be the same Apple ID and password that you use to make purchases from the App Store. So if you can remember your App Store password, try it out when logging into iCloud.

No good? We can't help jog your memory, but we can help you reset your iCloud password with Apple so you can log in.

Forgotten iCloud password: Things to check

There are some simple errors that we've all made when entering a password - you won't be the first, and you definitely won't be the last. Here are some things to check if you've forgotten your iCloud password:
  • Caps Lock. Ensure that the Caps Lock key isn't pressed (it lights up when pressed). iCloud passwords are case-sensitive, so if you've got Caps Lock pressed when you shouldn't, you'll be entering the wrong password.
  • Make sure you're using the right email address and password for the Apple ID you use with that iCloud address.
  • If you see a message that your account has been disabled for security reasons you need to change or reset your password using the My Apple ID service.

How to reset a forgotten iCloud Password with My Apple ID

If you've forgotten your iCloud password you can use Apple's My Apple ID service to recover it. Follow these steps:
  1. Open Safari and enter appleid.apple.com.
  2. Click Reset your Password.
  3. Enter your Apple ID and click Next.
  4. There are three ways you can confirm your identity to Apple. Although you will most likely only see two: Email Authentication and Answer Security Questions.
  5. It's easiest to start with Email Authentication. Select it and click Next. Apple will then send an email to the backup account it has on file. It doesn't tell you which email account this is (it won't be the same email address as you use to sign in). So you'll have to go check your mail accounts and see if the email has come through.
  6. You will get an email from Apple with the message How To Reset Your Apple ID Password. Click the Reset Now link in the email and follow the instructions.
  7. Apple normally sends the How to Reset Your Apple ID Password email quickly, but you should give it an hour to come through in case there is a problem. If you haven't received the email by then, it may have been sent to an email address you are no longer using. Click Return To My Apple ID.
  8. Click Reset My Password and enter your Apple ID again and click Next. This time choose Answer Security Questions and click Next.
  9. Enter your Birth Date using the Month, Day and Year options.
  10. Enter the answers to the two security questions. These vary but are based on information you entered when you set up the account, such as your dream job and the name of the city in which your parents met. Click Next.
  11. Fill out the New Password and Confirm Password fields. You should use the same password in each field.
  12. Click Reset password.

You will now have reset your password in OS X. If you have two-step verification enabled you will also be able to use this to reset your password. You will need your recovery key (the print out you created when you set up two-step verification) and to be working from a trusted device. This Apple Support document has more information on using Two-Step verification to recover a password.
